The second last post of the term......

In this year’s Language Arts lessons, I have learnt how to appreciate literature more. I have learnt about three different forms of Literature texts this year, namely short stories, novels and poetry. Short stories and novels are forms of stories. One of the shoet stories we used was Lamb To The Slaughter by Roald Dahl. The story was about a women killing a man with a frozen piece of lanb leg. This short story made me want to read more books than usual. The novel that we used was called Village By The Sea by Anita Desai. I felt the book was too wordy and not quite interesting.

Ten Short Stories by Roald Dahl

There were 10 short stories ( as the title states ) in the book. Some stories were amusing while i do not understand some stories. In the story the Umbrella Man, the man who sold the umbrella was actually a thief who steals umbrella to sell, so he can get money to buy liquor to drink. In the story The Hitchhiker, the man who asked the author to give him a lift to Epsom, a place where people bet on horse races. The hitchhiker is actually going there to take people valuables. But he only take from the rich and the snobbish.

Those are the two stories which i like the most out of all of them.

Books which i read during the holidays

During the school holidays, we had many a lot of free time. At some point, i was bored, so i read the two books my Language Arts teacher recommended us to read. the two books are:

Ten Short Stories by Roald Dahl
and
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

I found those books interesting as they are easy to understand with many interesting plots and funny stories.

I need to go back to school for training 4 times a week!!!D: But it is for our own good as we need to train for our competition next year.....
During this holiday, i can also meet up with my primary school friends and talk about our lives now. We can also hang out and go and watch movies.:)

Why i like this poem

I like it because it is easy to understand. It is about i knight going to save a princess. On his way, he had to get down from his horse and fight in a war

Fast rode the knight by Stephen Crane

Fast rode the knight
With spurs, hot and reeking,
Ever waving an eager sword,
"To save my lady!"
Fast rode the knIght,
And leaped from saddle to war.
Men of steel flickered and gleamed
Like riot of silver lights,
And the gold of the knight's good banner
Still waved on a castle wall.
. . . . .
A horse,
Blowing, staggering, bloody thing,
Forgotten at foot of castle wall.
A horse
Dead at foot of castle wall.

the effects of toddy

Toddy is as bad as smoking. It damages lungs and can kill people. It may lead to addiction, which will further damage the addicted party's liver. With his liver damaged, he will eventually die as the poison in his body cannot be discharged. The victim will feel very weak and will not feel like doing anything. When the victim does not drink the toddy, he will become very desperate and will do anything to get the toddy.

Urbanisation Arrives in Thul

Urbanisation Arrives In Thul
Breaking News! The government has made a shocking decision. They have decided to develop the long-undeveloped village of Thul into a commercial area with factories! The villagers are astonished at this sudden decision and have decided to stage a shocking protest. They have travelled to Bombay and are currently protesting to the government there! The government has a strong stance over this and they refuse to accede to the villagers' request. The villagers are very furious over this and one villager who was interviewed said,"I am extremely angry over this sudden decision. I will not tolerate such behaviour from the government and we will protest to the end." It also seems that the villagers' will not go home empty-handed. Who will win this struggle? Will it be the government or the villagers? It's all up to fate. The village leader, who also made his way to Bombay later in the day, said."It seems that we have a slim chance of over-throwing the government. But we will fight till the end. We will have no regrets to this decision.

Difference between chapathi and jalebi

The first main difference between a chapathi and jalebi is that a chapathi is a form of roti (bread). While roti refers to any flat unleavened bread, chapati is a roti made of whole wheat flour and cooked on a tava (flat skillet). A jalebi is made by deep-frying batter in a kind of pretzel shape then soaked in syrup.
This is the recipe for the chapati
three cups of Fine wholemeal flour or roti flour
one and a half teaspoon of Salt
one tablespoon of Ghee or oil
one cup Lukewarm water

the recipe for jalabi:
two cups of self raising flour
half tablespoon of baking powder
vegetable or sunflower cooking oil for deep frying
one cup of sugar
a few strands of saffron
one quarter tablespoon of cardamom powder
two drops of orange food colouring
and finally....
two tablespoon of rose water

An interview with Lila

Hi. I am a girl from a village. I have a brother and 3 sisters. I am quite pretty but there is no boys there for me to like. My brother is a slacker. He stopped going to school at a young age. All he does is sit in the field for hours in the day and hide under a coconut tree. I think that he sucks. My sisters? They know nothing other than to wait for tea every morning. I am very busy. I do not like my family. My father only knows how to drink, and my mother is sick. As in, physically sick. My dad goes to the toddy every single night and comes home drunk. He sleeps in the day and nothing else. He does not work, and has already sold out our animals and boat. We are poor. We cannot even afford sweets. As a result, we are forced to make them ourselves. Everyday I live in fear and distress. I do not know what is in stalled for me. Everyday I live in torture. How I long to have a pay, something to support my family.

home learning experience

After this experience, i feel that it is quite an enjoying learning experience but when i do not know something, my friends may also not know how to do it. In the end, i have to crack my brain to find out a solution. Not like in the school where we can ask the teachers of we do not understand anything. But it is also quite boring as we need to sit infront of the computer and do our work for 6 hours long not like in school which we can have breaks in between lessons. But there are also some good things about it. We can take our own time to do it and we can slack while doing it. but overall it is still quite a enjoying experience

the lady or the tiger

When the door was finally open, two lovely eyes faced him . He had expected it. The fair lady took a step forward, her cheeks blushing radiantly. But the young man said,"No i do not wan to marry her! There is only one and only one person in my heart, and that is the princess." As he said this,he put his hand against his heart n looked up to the princess. The princess was touched. she looked down at him, her eyes briming with tears. but somthing else was going to happen.

"Arrest him!" the king ordered. All the guards ran forward and apprehended him. the princess kneld down in front of her father and shouted," No....No! Father please...please i beg u release him." After many pleas from the princess, the king decided to release him and decided to make him his son-in-law. the audience was happy for the both of them.

They held hand in hand as they walked down the ale towards the prist. The prist announced them husband and wife. So that ended well for both of them but the lady who was behinf the door was not happy at all. she thought to herself. one day i will have my revenge......

journal of mary maloney

dear diary,

Those policemen are so stupid, they are so stupid until they ate up their own evidence. They are of no hope in arresting me. Although it was right under their noses, they were stupid enough to eat it. I killed Patrick with a leg of a lamb, which was eaten by the policeman. How stupid is that. I did not intend to kill Patrick at first,it was all because of that woman which Patick was keeping outside. Now coming to thik about it, it wasn't a bad idea after all. Now i can slack at home the whole day without being bothered by that syupid Patrick. When he came home, i saw he was very tired n decided to make supper for him. But he said no. He then said he wanted a divorce... I was furious. When he refused to let me get him supper again, I got very mad, and picked up the leg of the lamb and swung it at his head, killing him instantly. Anyway, it was all his fault. How could he just leave me for another woman just like that? Serve him right. The baby will also be unharmed this way. But before the policeman come, i must calm down n not get agitated

diary

Dear diary,
Today, I did a very bad thing. I accidentally killed my husband. I did it in a fit of anger, because I just lost my husband and I will be a widow with an unborn child. But at least I will not be hanged or need to go to jail. This is because the police have no evidence against me. They were tricked by me into eating the only evidence they against me… The lamb leg. Ha now they cannot charge me in court. This was wad happen…..
One day, I was waiting for my husband to come back. I was anxious as I wanted to tell him I was six month pregnant with a baby boy. When he finally came home, he had a worried look on his face. I suspected something was wrong, to my predictions were correct. He told me he wanted a divorce. I was shock out of my skin. I was angry that she was keeping another woman outside under my nose. I was furious.
I went to the kitchen to prepare supper, when I took out the lamb leg, I saw my husband taking his things and leaving the house. I ask him not to leave me but he said “ try to stop me”. That irritated me so I stopped him by hitting him on the back of the head with the frozen lamb leg which as hard as a baseball bat.
After that, the police came and investigated the place. I help them but told them lies. They looked like they did not believe me at first but came to like believe me after that.
As I had to destroy the evidence, I invited them to eat the lamb leg. How foolish were they......
After the police left, I felt relieve as I need not answer anymore silly questions.
